Welcome to Base Camp.

Stoa Nationals is just around the corner. To prepare you for it, Coaches Joseph Abell and Drew Magness are heading up Base Camp: the training ground for the most ambitious competitors in the country. We will be joined by assistant coach Sam Wooddell, the National TP Champion from NITOC 2018.

 
 

Why You Should Come

This is the most important tournament of the year.

NITOC represents everything you’ve worked for all season: which is why we want you to enter it as an unstoppable force. At Base Camp, we’ll fine-tune your performance so that you enter Day 1 of competition at the peak of your game.

We’re designing camp around a limited number of students, so seats will fill up quickly. Keeping small numbers in each track allows us to tailor the schedule to a select number of students, keeping our preparation as focused as possible.

Training Starts in April

All Base Camp students will be given a complimentary 90 minute webinar led by Joseph Abell in the month leading up to Nationals. You’ll get the chance to make friends with the other students in your track, and Joseph will walk you through every step of your preparation so that you can hit Base Camp at full speed. This includes topics like:

  • Physiological Health: Sleep, Nutrition, and Exercise

  • Maximizing Your Mental Game

  • Consistent Practice: Your NITOC Training Manual

We’ll also include a 30 minute Q&A in the webinar to answer any of your questions as you prepare for Nationals. Drew and I will be with you every step of the way.

Camp Information

All of this information can be found on Base Camp’s Registration Page, but here’s a quick summary:

  • Who: Stoa debaters competing in LD, TP, and/or Parli.

  • When: Camp will run May 16-18th.

  • Where: We’ve secured a gorgeous office space as our facility (hence the photos). It’s positioned 15 minutes north of the DBU campus, so you can keep the same housing plans you had for NITOC. 

  • Schedule: Days 1-2: LD/TP. 3:00-8:30pm. Day 3: Parli. 9am-4pm.

  • Cost: $165 for all three days.
