The Ace Peak Society 2.0.
We launched the Ace Peak Society (APS) in late January of last year as a way to connect Ace Peak’s private coaching students from all over the country. We’ve now created a new home for the Ace Peak Society, just in time for the most intense phase of the competitive season: nationals preparation. To make sure the Society is the best it can be, we’ve made some major upgrades.
As a reminder, the Ace Peak Society is exclusively for students we’ve worked with in private sessions this season. If you haven’t done that and would like to be a part of our community, book your first coaching session here.
Migrating to Discord
Discord is a free community chat app. You can run it in a browser, and/or download a client if you’re on Mac/Windows. Discord will make it much simpler to find opponents for practice debates and be a member of multiple distinct conversations. It also gives us better tools to monitor and regulate the Society.
We know, signing up for something new is a pain. But Discord is easy to set up and use. As soon as you join the new APS channel, you’ll understand why we switched. It’s worth the hassle of verifying your email. We promise.
Please pick a username that makes you easily identifiable, such as @CoachDrew. If your fellow members know who you are, you’re more likely to get good practice matches.
Nationals Prep
The end of the season is around the corner. While the Society will still support participation in local/regional tournaments, we’re going to begin focused preparation for nationals. That means we’re shifting our strategic discussions to tangible things members can do to improve their win rate and achieve their nationals goals.
Inside the Ace Peak Society, there are separate rooms for organizing practice rounds (Stoa LD, Stoa TP, Stoa Parli, NCFCA LD, NCFCA TP, and NSDA LD). There is also an open discussion room where students can talk and collaborate with each other. Even if you don’t want to be active in the Society chat, you and your parent(s) will benefit from reading along.
Code of Conduct
We now have a complete code of conduct. Please read it carefully. As a reminder, there will be parental supervision in each room.
Ace Peak Society Code of Conduct
Membership in the Ace Peak Society is a privilege, not a right. Failing to abide by this code will result in immediate removal from the group.
Show basic courtesy. All members of the society must be treated with kindness and respect.
Offer constructive content. Posts should assist in preparation for debate tournaments. Having fun is encouraged, but useless content (self-promotion, spam, goofiness, memes, etc) is not.
Don’t advance prejudice. Posts that deride, reinforce a stereotype, poke fun at, or otherwise dehumanize a person or group based on their membership in a category are not allowed. This includes (but is not limited to) discrimination based on age, gender, nationality, ethnicity, and religion.
Don’t ask coaching questions. The Ace Peak Society exists to connect you to other students. Save your coaching questions for your next session.
Avoid Politics & Religion. Debating heated topics is an important part of growing into a mature citizen. However, Ace Peak Society is not the right forum for that discussion. Argue political and religious topics only in the context of debate arguments. Expressing your own religion in a positive way, such as: “I’ve got my whole club praying for you this weekend,” is acceptable.
If you have any questions or concerns about the Code of Conduct, please contact us or direct message Coach Joseph in the Discord channel.
