Qualification Addendum C: New Partners & Different Leagues

Preface: we have not made it more difficult to qualify for The Online Championships. If you’re already qualified through the current criteria, rest easy. This post is not for you.

First, a Quick Recap

We’ve already established the criteria by which debaters can qualify for our Online Championships. Review them here and here. This post is to clarify how these criteria apply to partnerships and cross-league competitors.

New Partnerships

Any team of two debaters can compete at the Online Championship as long as each member of the team has met one or more of the qualification criteria in that debate event.

In other words, you can compete at Nationals with a new TP partner as long as each of you have qualified in that event as individuals.

  • Example: James got two winning records in NCFCA TP with two different partners. Alex got prequalified to NCFCA TP nationals with his partner Fredrick. James/Alex may compete in TP at the Online Championship. This is because both members of the team qualified in TP.

  • Example: Matthew got two winning records in LD, and his friend Brandon got two winning records in TP with his partner Theodore. Matthew/Brandon may not compete in TP at the Online Championship. This is because they did not both qualify in TP.

Different Leagues

A team that is qualified for one of the Online Championships may compete in both of the Online Championships within that same debate event.

In other words, qualifying to the Online Championship (for Stoa Debaters) in one debate event qualifies you for the Online Championship (for NCFCA Debaters) in that same debate event, and vice versa.

  • Example: Alfred pre-qualified to NCFCA Nationals in LD. Alfred may compete in LD at the Online Championship (for NCFCA Debaters) as well as in LD at the Online Championship (for Stoa Debaters).

  • Example: The team of Jeffrey/Lauren got two winning records in TP during the regular Stoa season. Jeffrey/Lauren may compete in TP at the Online Championship (for Stoa Debaters) as well as in TP at the Online Championship (for NCFCA Debaters).
